Young Frankenstein is a difficult twelve-location musical that we performed on an outdoor stage with minimal wing space. Because All Student Theatre (AST) is a student group, we found ourselves working with minimal resources: barely enough money, not enough time, and too few hands. This lack of resources led each production team member to wear many hats in order to finish the show in time. I designed the sets, my assigned role. I was a carpenter, building my vision with my own two hands and a drill. I was a scenic painter and set dresser. I built a rotating bookcase. I helped make props. I hung lights and later focused them. I towel-dried the stage after a huge storm that ended fifteen minutes before top of show. I cleaned up broken glass in the middle of final dress. Young Frankenstein was a challenge but in the end a triumphant success.
